The Natural could be

Trainers Tony and Calvin McEvoy landed a running double at Morphettville Parks when The Natural raced away from her rivals to win the Nova 919 Plate (1250m).

After winning with The Pugilist, The Natural made it a double winning even more easily than her stablemate.

Ridden by Barend Vorster, the three-year-old filly, backed from $2 into $1.75 favourite, scored by 2-3/4 lengths from The Bull McCabe ($9.50) with Hypercane ($3), 2-3/4 lengths away third.

Vorster had the filly away quickly to lead and she never looked in doubt dashing clear in the home straight.

Trainer Calvin McEvoy said the stable had been confident The Natural would be hard to beat.

“We’ve always had such time for this filly,” McEvoy said.

“She just didn’t get it right as a two-year-old and is a classic Fastnet Rock.

“She did everything well at home but when she got to the races the pressure was a bit too much.

“The filly was a bit keen for the first 300 metres today but then came back for Barend.

“She travelled with her ears pricked and it was really nice to see.

“I would like to give a shout out to the team at Angaston led by John and Finn, they’ve done a great job.

“We’ve always thought she was stakes class and after getting the maiden out of the road today she will get better with age.

“I think she can get a bit further in trip and I believe she will have a good autumn.”

Winning jockey Barend Vorster said it had been an easy win.

“She began too well for me,” Vorster said.

“Once she jumped she was up and running into the first corner.

“However, through the middle stages she did relax nicely.

“She was very good up the straight.

“Once you get up in class and a bit more genuine tempo, I think she will race a bit more generously.

“I think the quality of the field today showed she is doing it on natural ability.”
