Dianna delivers

Beautifully bred three-year-old filly Oh Please Dianna scored her maiden win in good style at Werribee on Monday, February 3.

The $2.10 favourite, and ridden by Luke Currie, Oh Please Dianna scored a short neck win in the Sherriffs Crantetrucks Maiden (1100m) beating Finesse Tess ($2.80) with Flirting ($4.80) two lengths away third.

Currie had the Tony & Calvin McEvoy trained filly away quickly but allowed her to balance up and settle fourth, one-out, one-back in the run to the home turn.

In the straight, Currie asked the daughter of the stallion Deep Field to accelerate and she took the lead but looked a little ‘lost’ in the run to the line.

Kept going, Oh Please Dianna scored impressively for the owner the Strawberry Hill Stud Syndicate managed by John Singleton.

The winner is a daughter of 2011 Magic Millions Two-Year-Old winner Karuta Queen who was also a dual stakeswinner.

Trainer Calvin McEvoy said Oh Please Dianna was a talented filly.

“We will look to try and aim her at some black type races over the coming months,” McEvoy said.

Winning jockey Luke Currie was impressed by Oh Please Dianna’s win.

“It was a good effort,” Currie said.

“She got a bit lost in the straight.

“It’s a good solid headwind in the straight so she probably felt that a little bit and wandered but she had a bit on them.

“She dropped in early and had a nice run, but she is still learning her trade.

“I was always confident in the home straight, but the runner-up kept kicking and it got a bit worrying late that she might not see it.

“I put the whip away and tried to get her balanced, so she wasn’t laying in over the other horse.

“I tried to pick the bridle back up in her mouth to let her take a breath and go again which she did.

“It was a nice effort and she’s got a lot of improvement in her.”
