Tessneem too quick

Trainers Tony & Calvin McEvoy landed a race-to-race double when the beautifully bred Tessneem easily won on the Ballarat Synthetic on Sunday, June 20.

It was a perfect day for the trainers at Ballarat with Nabbed, winner of the opening event, and Tessneem, being their only runners at the meeting.

A $1.4 million Inglis Easter Yearling Sales purchase and sister to Group 1 winner Heatherly, the filly showed great speed from barrier opening to dictate the Cervus Equipment Maiden (1200m).

Tessneem ($2.60), ridden by Damian Lane, cruised home by 1-1/4 lengths from Kermalaw ($7.50) with Arapiles ($14) a similar margin away third.

Trainer Tony McEvoy said the winner had good natural speed.

“I expected her to lead and win,” McEvoy said.

“I thought she ran very well on debut on the grass track here at Ballarat but just found the heavy 9 going too tough late.

“Today, Damian used her natural speed and rated her perfectly.

“Damian actually had a bit to do with Heatherly and remarked how similar she was to Tessneem, both in appearance and temperament. I took confidence that Damian came to ride the filly as it was his only ride at the meeting

“I’ll be very happy for connections if she can obtain a similar record on the racetrack.

“The raceday experience she gained from her first run helped today and I’m sure there is a lot more improvement.

“She is a speedy filly, and we will look to find another suitable event to help build her confidence.”
