Furlanetto has a future
Lightly raced three-year-old filly Furlanetto indicated a bright future with an impressive maiden win at Swan Hill on Tuesday, April 9.
Having her third run from a spell, Furlanetto sprinted home powerfully to win the Footts Swan Hill Demolition Group Maiden (1600m).
Trained by Tony & Calvin McEvoy, and ridden by Harry Coffey, the filly was having just her sixth start.
Backed from $2.90 into $1.95 favourite, Furlanetto settled third last in the running line before rounding up her rivals in the straight, racing away to score by 2-1/4 lengths from Dashing Rebel ($5.50) with The Simple Line ($8), a half-length away third.
Stable foreman Finn McCarthy said he was delighted to see Furlanetto break through.
“Yes, she was terrific,” McCarthy said.
“It was finally great to see her do at the races what she has been doing at home.
“She has always galloped very well at home.
“We’ve changed up a few things and today rode her with cover.
“It was great to see her run up to her ability, the lads can see how she comes through the race and find another suitable event.”
Winning jockey Harry Coffey believes Furlanetto can step up in tougher fields.
“Well done to the owners, they have been very patient,” Coffey said.
“It was a well-deserved win, and I like the way she did it.
“They went steady, and she was a bit keen but her turn of foot was brilliant and she accelerated really well when I needed her to.
“She rounded out the race really well, running through the line late.
“The filly does have a good turn of foot.
“She will get good confidence and can go on and be competitive up in grade.”
