Easy again for Redzoust
Redzoust landed a solid betting plunge in scoring an easy win on the Ballarat Synthetic on Friday, September 30.
Backed from as much as $4.40 to run $2.05 favourite, Redzoust dashed away from his rivals over the final 200 metres to win the Sportsbet Bet With Mates 0-64 Handicap (1100m).
Trained by Tony & Calvin McEvoy and ridden by Dean Holland, the three-year-old colt had 3-1/2 lengths to spare at the finish from Kerioth ($6.50) with Filip’s Star ($9.50), three-quarters of a length away third.
The son of champion sire Zoustar began quickly from a wide draw, but Holland was happy to allow him settle outside the leader and get into a rhythm before starting to urge him along 300 metres from home.
Holland asked him to sprint from the 200-metre mark and the colt quickly put a margin on his rivals and won eased down.
Trainer Tony McEvoy said the stable would look for a suitable city race for Redzoust.
“We have always liked him, it has just taken a bit of time to mature into himself,” McEvoy said.
“We had a query over his ability to handle rain affected ground but took him to Geelong on a Soft 5 first up this preparation and his wheels spun over the final stages.
“So, we brought him back to the synthetic at Ballarat earlier in the month and he showed his ability winning easily.
“Today’s race was again on the synthetic and he was even more impressive so now we head to town with the proviso he can run on a firm surface.”
McEvoy said he was prepared to assess Redzoust against stronger company in a race like the Group 3 $200,000 Catanach’s Jewellers Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Wednesday, October 12.
Another option would be the Group 3 $200,000 Red Anchor Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday, October 22.
“We believe he is good enough to tackle black type races and they are good options,” the trainer said.
