Stakes-placed Arabian Summer gave her rivals a galloping lesson in the $250,000 Magic Millions Ballarat Two-Year-Old Classic (1000m).
Arabian Summer gave trainers Tony & Calvin McEvoy and jockey Harry Coffey the first two winners on Ballarat Cup day, Saturday, December 9.
Backed from as much as $5 early to run the $2.60 favourite, the filly led then dashed away to win by 3-1/2 lengths from Parkour ($5) with Viannara ($26) a neck away third.
Placed in the Debutant Stakes and Ottawa Stakes at her only two runs, Arabian Summer indicated she was a filly of the future with today’s easy win.
Trainer Tony McEvoy said he and Calvin would take time before assessing a future program for Arabian Summer.
“She was really good,” McEvoy said.
“I think having the benefit of those two hard runs in Listed grade, held her in really good stead.
“Dropping in grade, walking across the road on her home deck also were a bonus.
“But she really did impress me today.
“It is going to be a hard race to weigh up what level it is, but it was worth a lot of money.
“We have to make a decision now, do we go north (to the Magic Millions at the Gold Coast).
“She is so professional, and the Gold Coast suits horses that race like her.
“We will let the dust settle and enjoy today and see what happens.”
McEvoy paid credit to son, and co-trainer Calvin McEvoy, for the purchase of Arabian Summer.
“He came to me and said, Dad, we have got to have a look at this one in book two.
“I said I think we have got enough on our list, so he forced me to go and have a look.
“She looked like a pocket rocket, and I thought we would steal her, but sadly, there were a lot of people, not just Calvin that found her and we had to go to $220,000, but so pleased we did.
“She is a really nice filly, two stakes placings and a big money race today.”
Winning jockey Harry Coffey was not surprised with the ease of the win by Arabian Summer.
“It didn’t feel a soft track when I asked her to sprint,” Coffey said.
“She was very quick and moved well throughout and let down nicely.
“Arabian Summer got to the front easily and controlled it, so you would be expecting her to quicken well, but she did move well in those soft conditions.
“Today was very suitable, she knows where she is and home track advantage was a key, and it was a fair drop in grade.
“I thought her Caulfield run was really good then she got lost down the straight at Flemington in a pretty smart race so all she had to do today was turn up.
“She is going really well.
“I will send a shout out to Calvin, he rang me during the week, and he said he thought I had the big prizemoney race on Saturday after she galloped really well.
“I think it is a really good reward for the stable, their two-year-olds have run really well this season.
“The horses are very well educated, and they are really good at placing them.Galloping
