Magic Sunset scores
An enthusiastic group of owners cheered the Tony McEvoy-trained Magic Sunset to an easy win in the Kingsford Hotel Fillies & Mares Maiden (1200m) at Gawler on Wednesday, September 26.
Ridden by Jamie Kah, Magic Sunset ($1.50 fav) led throughout and dashed away to win by six lengths from Uninhibited ($2.25) with Ambibella ($81), 1-3/4 lengths away third.
The winner was syndicated by James Harron Bloodstock with a host of owners involved of which eight were at Gawler to cheer the three-year-old filly to victory.
Dean Elliott, from James Harron Bloodstock, said Magic Sunset had always shown ability but had been given time to develop.
“I think she won’t be at her best to the autumn next year but is showing a lot of promise,” Elliott said.
“We were surprised when she missed the start on debut but showed the benefit of race experience today going straight to the front.
“Jamie said she was super impressed by the win and it would be nice to go to Melbourne with her during the spring carnival, but we’ll let Tony and Calvin McEvoy made the decision about her future.”
Assistant trainer Calvin McEvoy is also excited about the winner’s potential.
“She still has a bit of her winter coat so is still not at her peak yet,” McEvoy said.
“Dad and I will see how she comes through the run before mapping out a program for her, but I have no doubt she will be even better next preparation.”
