Carnival Success
The continued growth of the McEvoy Mitchell brand was highlighted by results from the 2018 spring carnival.
Trainer Tony McEvoy had his best spring carnival for McEvoy Mitchell encompassing 14 meetings in Sydney and Melbourne culminating in the feature Sandown meeting on Saturday, November 17.
McEvoy had 10 winners, 11 seconds and seven thirds for a total of 28 horses running top three.
With Group One racing being the pinnacle, McEvoy had two winners – Oohood (Flight Stakes) and Sunlight (Coolmore Stud Stakes) with two seconds and a third for a total of five placings at the elite level.
He also had four Group Three wins – Cool Passion (twice), Sunlight and I’m A Princess included in a total of 14 individual stakes-performed runners.
McEvoy said he was proud of the stable’s results.
“We’ve come off a career-best season in 2017-2018 and now had our best spring carnival results,” McEvoy said.
“The success can be traced to a number of areas.
“The quality of horses we’ve been buying is showing through but just as importantly is the McEvoy Mitchell Racing team I have been able to pull together.
“Bringing Calvin (son Calvin McEvoy) on board as assistant trainer has been significant, but no more than every member of McEvoy Mitchell staff, both in Angaston and Melbourne.
“I also would like to think I am still evolving, and improving, as a trainer.”
McEvoy said the stable would not be resting on its success but would continue to build the brand.
“We are marginally ahead on the number of winners at the same stage of our record-breaking season, but more importantly, our results in black type races has sharply improved.”
