Box On Collins easily
Promising Tony McEvoy-trained staying four-year-old Box On Collins broke through for a strong win at Morphettville Parks on Saturday, November 17.
Ridden by Andrew Mallyon, Box On Collins ($2.60 fav) scored a 1-1/2 length win in the Penna Michael Accountant Benchmark 70 Handicap (1950m) beating Oh So Unfair ($16) with Aagas ($12), a head away third.
The win was the middle of a two-state treble for Tony McEvoy who also won two group races at Sandown in Melbourne with Cool Passion and I’m A Princess.
Assistant trainer Calvin McEvoy said the connections could have a lot of fun with the four-year-old this preparation.
“He’s gone from a kid to an adult after a break,” McEvoy said.
“He has really matured this preparation.
“His two runs from a break were very good and today’s race was perfect and Andrew (Mallyon) gave him a sweet ride.
“I’m sure he can get a bit further than 2000 metres and following today’s win can have an excellent campaign.”
Winning jockey Andrew Mallyon said he had been confident of victory from the home turn.
“I was a bit worried early when the pace came out of the race,” Mallyon said.
“But as the race developed, I found myself perfectly placed behind the leaders approaching the home turn.
“It unfolded really well for me and I was never going to get beaten.
“I thank Tony for asking me to ride in Adelaide today and it was great to get a result.”
