Sarah plays the field
A perfectly rated front running ride by apprentice Sarah Field landed Capulet a winner at Mornington on Wednesday, December 11.
The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained mare stepped up to 2000 metres in the Coastal Estate Agents Benchmark 64 Handicap and proved too good for her rivals.
With Field’s 3kg claim reducing Capulet’s weight to 58kg, the four-year-old ($6.50) kept running to win by three-quarters of a length from Scottie’s Legacy ($1.75 fav) with Magnolia Lodge ($15), three lengths away third.
Field had no hesitation in using a gate one draw to lead and then rated the mare perfectly to score and return to the cheers of many owners from the MyRacehorse No 1 group.
“There are lots of owners in this girl,” Field said.
“Capulet doesn’t have to lead but the way she pinged the gates today I got to control the race.
“She came back under me pretty good in her first time over 2000 (metres).
“I had such a fit horse under me, and I got them chasing but she was too good again.”
Finn McCarthy, stable foreman for McEvoy Mitchell Racing, said Capulet had won well and had praise for winning jockey Sarah Field.
“Sarah gave her a terrific ride,” McCarthy said. “She rated Capulet very well out in front.
“Although the mare had a bit of weight, the claim was very valuable. and she was due to win again.
“Getting a bit older, she has taken a little longer to get fitter and out to the 2000 (metres) today, she saw it out very well.
“It was great to get another win for the MyRacehorse team.
“It is fantastic to have them on board, they are great supporters of ours and it was great to have a lot of them here at Mornington to salute the win.”
Capulet is building an excellent record with four wins and nine placings from just 19 starts collecting $158,945 in stakes.
