Resurge surges
Trainers Tony & Calvin McEvoy, along with jockey Barend Vorster, brought up a winning double when Resurge won at Murray Bridge on Saturday, January 15.
Resurge turned in a last-to-first performance to score in the Carlton Draught Benchmark 82 Handicap (2000m).
The victory followed the success of Water Into Wine earlier in the day.
Resurge ($4.60) won running away by 1-1/2 lengths from Call Me Shamus ($4.80) with Designer Chef ($4.40), a long neck away third.
Vorster let the six-year-old settle at the tail of the field of nine and only pulled him wide turning for home.
He took Resurge to the centre of the track and wound him up and the gelding sprinted strongly to win well.
Resurge has built a good record of five wins and nine placings from just 31 starts earning $172,940 in stakes.
Winning jockey Barend Vorster said Resurge was ready to contest today.
“Mentally, he was just in the right space today,” Vorster said.
“He has been grinding to the line in his last couple of runs but today I was able vto park him and have the last crack and he finished and ran through the line quite strong.”
