McEvoy’s Group One strike rate

Here’s a question. Among Australia’s leading trainers who has the best strike rate in Group One races for the 2018-2019 season?

If you guessed Tony McEvoy, you are right.

Of the top trainers who have had 10 or more runners in Group One races this season, McEvoy has a winning strike rate of 19%.

He has had four Group One wins from 21 runners, along with four placings for a place percentage of 38%.

Champion mare Sunlight has had two Group One victories while Oohood and Manuel have one each.

Sunlight will look to increase McEvoy’s strike rate at Moonee Valley on Friday night when she contests the Group One $500,000 Keogh Homes William Reid Stakes (1200m).

The barrier draw did no favours and she will come from the extreme outside gate of 11 but she remains a firm $2.15 favourite with corporate bookmakers.

For the record McEvoy’s 19% is followed by Chris Waller (11%), and James Cummings (8%).
