Certainly Got The Style
It was a case of another box ticked for beautifully bred mare Got The Style at Gawler on Saturday, December 18.
Trainers Tony & Calvin McEvoy are excited about the prospects of Got The Style and Saturday’s win made her a metropolitan victor.
“This girl had throat surgery which has held her back,” Tony McEvoy said.
“Our first goal was to make her a winner which we did at Ballarat last month, now we have added metro winner to her CV.
“She is superbly bred and ultimately we would love to make her a stakes winner.”
At Gawler, Got The Style, beautifully ridden by Victorian apprentice Madison Lloyd, was an easy winner of the Bronwen Darrall Memorial Handicap (1200m).
Backed from $1.80 into $1.65 favourite, the four-year-old mare was given the run of the race by Lloyd, trailing the early speed.
Turning for home the mare was in a pocket, but Lloyd didn’t panic and waited for the leader to drift off the fence.
Once that happened, she angled the mare inside and quickly sprinted through to dash away and score a 2-1/4 length win from City Jet ($41) with Journey To Petra ($3.80) a length away third.
Trainer Tony McEvoy is very hopeful about Got The Style’s future.
“The throat surgery delayed her career but I’m sure there is more to come,” McEvoy said.
“We are just taking it a step at a time but I’m sure she has better wins ahead.
“Credit to Madison I thought she rode the mare really well.
“She is a patient rider, and her 3kg claim was also a big help.
“I’m sure she will benefit from the trip to Adelaide today and riding at Gawler – and now she is going home a winner.”
Got The Style now has two wins and a second from just five starts for owner Judi Wanless.
