Yulong Justify makes it a double

Yulong Justify made it a perfect day for trainers Tony & Calvin McEvoy winning at Murray Bridge on Wednesday, January 26.

The stable took two runners to the Australia Day meeting, and both won with Revue victorious earlier in the day.

After a good start, Yulong Justify settled just off the pace then dashed away in the home straight in the Rainforest Retreat Class 2 Handicap (1400m).

The $3.10 favourite, ridden by Todd Pannell, had 4-1/4 lengths to spare from Stratessa (7.50) with Stackable ($51), 1-3/4 lengths away third.

A lightly raced four-year-old, Yulong Justify displayed his true ability today with an effortless win.

He was always travelling well within himself for Pannell and sprinted brilliantly to put a gap between himself and his rivals.

Stable foreperson Sarah Rutten said Yulong Justify was talented.

“This fellow has been a bit frustrating,” Rutten said.

“His barrier manners can be a little bit difficult sometimes.

“It was great to see him relax and behave today and to win like that was just great.

“He came over from Melbourne in great order last week and we did some things at home with him, with the barrier blanket, just to get him to jump a bit better.

“He’s been really good at home so to see him bring the manners here today and finish like that is great.”

Winning jockey Todd Pannell was impressed by Yulong Justify’s win.

“It was good to see this horse back to his best,” Pannell said.

“I think the horse might strike a bit of form now after that win.

“It would be a good confidence booster.

“He still got a bit hot and bothered in these steamy conditions and could be a horse that prefers it in the cooler weather.

“He is certainly a nice horse all round.”
