Laure Me In easily

Trainer Tony McEvoy will “raise the bar” with Laure Me In, a strong winner at Flemington on Saturday, January 19.

A well backed $2.40 favourite, Laure Me In, ridden by Luke Currie, came from midfield to score a comfortable two length win in the Bitalli Handicap (1800m) beating The Mighty Jrod ($151) with Amadeus ($26), a half-length away third.

The victory gave McEvoy a two-state double as Vietti scored by the same margin at Morphettville earlier in the day.

“We are in a game of dreams,” McEvoy said.

“He has earned the chance to step up to tougher company.

“I might run him in the Carlyon Cup for his next run to see if he is any chance of tackling the All-Star Mile.

“He is building a really good profile, and I’m not sure where he can take us.

“He is a strong horse with a good constitution. It took him a while to work it out, but I am pleased for the owners who have shown great patience and he is rewarding them.”

McEvoy said it had been an excellent ride by Luke Currie.

“He gave him a nice run on the inside before bringing him wide in the home straight.”

Currie made a salient point that he had ridden Laure Me In at its allotted weight of 54kg.

“Normally I ride a bit heavier but when Tony asks me to get down to 54kg I know it will be worth it,” Currie said.

“He had a lovely run and travelled up beautifully and just needed a run in the home straight.

“He was just too good for them over the final stages.”
