Indrabeel makes it 2 from 2

Talented mare Indrabeel only managed to win one race from her first 20 starts but made it two from two for trainer Tony McEvoy winning at Balaklava on Wednesday, May 8.

Purchased by Sheamus Mills Bloodstock earlier this year, Indrabeel kicked off her time with McEvoy with a comfortable win at Gawler on April 25.

In bringing up a winning double for the trainer following earlier success with Xilong, the four-year-old mare had another easy win at Balaklava.

Backed from $1.90 into $1.80 favourite, Indrabeel was perfectly placed just behind the speed by jockey Barend Vorster before going clear to win the Coopers Dry Benchmark 64 Handicap (1600m) by 1-1/2 lengths from Exalted Jenni ($151) with Master Chum ($3.80), a half-length away third.

Trainer Tony McEvoy, and assistant trainer Calvin McEvoy are delighted with the mare’s progress.

“This mare was really good today,” Calvin McEvoy said.

“She got a good run and it is really good to see her two from two for us.

“She’s by Savabeel so she is bred to stay.

“We might give her a chance at black type now. There is the Centaurea Stakes over 2000 metres on May 18 at Morphettville and she has earned a chance.”

Trainer Tony McEvoy was pleased.

“She’s got an awkward-going style,” McEvoy said.

“She was a little bit keen early today but finished off the race really well.”

Winning jockey Barend Vorster said it had been a comfortable win.

“She’s really enjoying her work and her racing,” Vorster said.

“She’s got a bit of quality and Tony is getting her going through the right levels.

He’s picking her races and she ran a convincing race today.

“She’s the type of mare you can put anywhere in a race.

“Today there wasn’t much speed in the race but midway they picked it up nicely. She quickened up over the last 200 metres and won well.”
