100 up for McEvoy
First-starter Lassiter brought up trainer Tony McEvoy’s 100th winner for the 2018-2019 season with an impressive victory at Bendigo on Tuesday, March 19.
Fittingly, Lassiter is owned by Wayne Mitchell’s Pipeliner Bloodstock Pty Ltd.
A $5 chance, the three-year-old filly finished best to win the Race Services 3YO Fillies Maiden (1100m) by a half-length from Tofane ($2.05 fav) with La La Nola ($19), five lengths away third.
McEvoy was on course to celebrate the victory.
“We thought she could win,” McEvoy said.
“She had trialled up nicely at home and I thought this race on such a big, beautiful track would be ideal.
“However, I was tipped four horses in the race so that cooled our thoughts, but she is a quality filly.
“I bought her at the Gold Coast, and she showed me a lot of talent as a two-year-old then she got colds, got kicked, pulled muscles and it was very frustrating, but we have been patient and taken our time and she is about to repay us.
“She went like a city-class filly today and if she can go to town and do it, I will look at some black type for her over the Adelaide carnival.”
Jockey Luke Currie she he felt the filly was never going to be beaten.
“She travelled really well behind them (the leaders),” Currie said.
“It was nice for her to come out and flow forward when we wanted to.
“She showed she was definitely city class and black type after that.
“Time will tell but she did everything right today.
“It will be a fairly good form race. She did a few things wrong. She jumped well but got a bit lost and her legs went everywhere so it was good to give her a chance to balance so will improve off that.”
