Track suits Heavenbent
Heavenbent, a filly which loves firm tracks, returned to the winner’s list with an authoritative performance at Balaklava on Sunday, February 23.
Trainers Tony & Calvin McEvoy were despairing of finding a firm track for the three-year-old but came upon a suitable event in South Australia.
“We had her in at Ararat a week ago, but the track was shifty,” trainer Tony McEvoy said.
“We were bringing two horses across for the Saturday meeting at Morphettville so put Heavenbent on the float because Balaklava can be very firm during the summer months.
“The track was a good four today and it was perfect.”
Heavenbent ($9.50) showed her appreciation with a two length win in the BTR Excavations Rating 0-56 Handicap (1600m).
Ridden by Jake Toeroek, the filly settled behind the leaders from gate three before extending in the home straight for a comfortable win from Leader’s Pride ($20) with Monseagle ($2.50 fav), a head away third.
McEvoy said because of Heavenbent’s love of firm tracks, connections had opted to list her in the current online auction.
“Even with so many tracks in Victoria, it was proving difficult to find the right race when the track conditions were ideal.
“I actually believe she would be well suited in South Australia, and it is not possible for us to continue campaigning her there from our Ballarat stables.
“She has won two of her 10 starts and won from 1300 metres to 1600 metres.”
