Tochka too speedy

A brilliant beginning enabled Tochka to dominate her rivals at Kilmore on Friday, March 14.

Trained by Tony & Calvin McEvoy, Tochka jumped very quickly in the MC Labour Benchmark 58 Handicap (1112m) enabling jockey Linda Meech to control the tempo and lead throughout.

A well backed $2.80 favourite, the three-year-old filly scored by three-quarters of a length from Bankroll ($8.50) with The Doll ($3.10), 1-1/4 lengths away third.

Meech had the daughter of Russian Revolution away superbly and she rated the filly superbly and was always in control winning well.

Rayan Moore, Racing Manager for McEvoy Mitchell, was delighted with Tochka’s bold win.

“The 1112 metres was a bit of a concern at the end,” Moore said.

“But Linda rates them well, she’s a horsewoman and knew what she had under her.

“Tochka was very strong through the line, they weren’t making up a lot of ground on her.

“It was fantastic to get another win for MyRacehorse, their team is flying, they had a Group One winner last week with Willydoit winning the New Zealand Derby. They buy quality racehorses and there are a lot of owners here today going away very happy.

“MyRacehorse has been with McEvoy Mitchell Racing for a few years now and have had good success with So Unusual, Unusual Pearl and a few others so long may it continue.

“We will take Tochka through the grades, she is a robust girl, and I think there is a bit up of upside.”

Winning jockey Linda Meech said she had been confident of victory in running.

“I thought the race was really run to suit,” Meech said.

“She got to dictate rather than the other way around. At her last start I think she was a victim of circumstances because the leader went very fast, and she was trying to chase it. Today, they had to chase her instead.

“She ran it right out which I was pleased about because I had a thought she might just be a 1000 metre horse, but she managed the extra trip, and up the hill at Kilmore as well.

“She has got brilliant speed which makes it hard to get a bit further, but she did it today, and as I said, up the hill at Kilmore makes it a bit tougher.

“She is speedy, so the tighter tracks really suit her.”
