Timeonlees terrific

A perfect ride by Linda Meech landed Timeonlees a good winner at Mildura on Saturday, July 19 for trainers Tony & Calvin McEvoy.

Meech settled the four-year-old mare just off the pace in the bet365 0-58 Handicap (1900m) before producing her in the home straight and coming with a well-timed run.

Timeonlees ($2.70 fav) drew clear to win by 1-1/4 lengths from Fiorente Spritz ($41) with Rasputina ($15), a similar margin away third.

Coming from a wide gate, the mare began well but others were happy to try and push up inside.

Meech steadied Timeonlees settling second, then third before waiting to the home straight to launch her successful challenge.

Trainer Calvin McEvoy said Timeonlees deserved the win.

“She has been racing most consistently, and it was great to see her win,” McEvoy said.

“After knocking on the door it was good to see it open.

“Well done to Linda (Meech) for an intelligent ride.

“The win should give Timeonlees some confidence.”

Winning jockey Linda Meech said she had been confident Timeonlees had been well placed by the trainers.

“She was good, did everything right,” Meech said.

“To be honest if she didn’t win today I would have been disappointed.

“She had a beautiful run in the race and gave me a nice ride.”
