Simply Outrageous

Trainers Tony & Calvin McEvoy combined with jockey Linda Meech to land a winning double at Sportsbet Ballarat on Saturday, February 14.

Simply Outrageous was heavily backed and duly delivered with a comfortable win in the Ciaron Maher Racing Benchmark 56 Handicap (1400m) following Grammy’s Sunshine’s win earlier in the day.

Backed from $4 into $2.60 favourite, Simply Outrageous sat second before dashing clear to win by 2-1/4 lengths from Runaway Ruler ($8.50) with Sara’s Rocket ($26), 1-3/4 lengths away third.

Trainer Tony McEvoy said Simply Outrageous had been “really good.”

“I thought she would settle three or four pairs back early, but she jumped too well fresh,” McEvoy said.

“Linda (Meech) was electric today and allowed her to stride forward and settle second outside the leader – it was the right decision.

“The filly extended beautifully in the home straight.

“She does prefer to get her toe in the ground, so she is in training coming into the right part of the season.

“I’m confident there will be better wins ahead, and I think she will be even better as a mare.”

Winning jockey Linda Meech was impressed by the ease of Simply Outrageous’ victory.

“It was a great win after I had to go to plan B after the jump,” Meech said.

“They were walking and I was going really easily.

“She went super – it was a great first up run.

“I expect she can go on with it for the rest of the preparation.”
