Simply Outrageous local win

Three-year-old filly Simply Outrageous gave trainers Tony & Calvin McEvoy a winning double at Sportsbet Ballarat on Sunday, May 25.

Jockey Harry Coffey also brought up a double bringing the filly with a well-timed run to take out the Mitty’s Maiden (12500m) in front of a raucous footy crowd.

The trainers and jockey had combined earlier with the impressive Oceansprint.

Simply Outrageous was given time to balance up early and settled in seventh position with clear galloping room.

Coffey asked her to improve approaching the 600m mark and she came up three wide with cover before being asked to extend in the home straight.

Simply Outrageous ($1.90 fav) eventually won by a half-length from Em Sixty ($4.40) with Chantra ($10), 2-1/4 lengths away third.

Winning trainer Calvin McEvoy was treated as if he had kicked the winning grand final goal with the win by Simply Outrageous.

“We’ve got the Lake Wendouree Football Club here today, headed by Rowan Brown, and it was nice for them to taste a bit of success as there hasn’t been much on the footy field,” McEvoy said.

“The club only got into this horse a short while ago and I promised them a quick win.

“She nearly got the job done first up at Ararat.

“It was a great ride today by Harry Coffey.

“Another big part of the ownership group was formed when we went to King Island, a big charity thing.

“Simply Outrageous has a lot of owners so there was a bit of pressure today but she will go through her grades and I thought it was a good win.”

Winning jockey Harry Coffey said he was aware of the strong on-course support for Simply Outrageous.

“Lucky I am going home to Swan Hill tonight or I might have got caught celebrating with the boys at the Lake Wendouree Football Club,” Coffey said.

“It was a good win. She is still a bit green and having a look around late.

“She had a lovely run and was entitled to do what she did.

“Yes, she is still very green and got a bit to learn.

“The team will have a lot of fun with her and you love seeing a lot of people coming to the races and getting a win, especially with Lake Wendouree being local.”
