Pacific a glamour

Three-year-old filly Pacific Glamour returned to racing with an impressive victory at Sportsbet-Ballarat on Monday, November 3.

Trained by Tony & Calvin McEvoy, Pacific Glamour bounded away in the home straight on the heavy nine track to win the McGrath Ballarat Maiden (1000m).

The filly began well from barrier four for jockey Fred Kersley to cross and share the lead in the run to the home turn.

While her rivals were under pressure turning for home, Kersley hadn’t moved on his filly before asking her to extend over the final 300 metres.

Pacific Glamour ($2.40 fav) raced clear to win untouched by 3-1/2 lengths from Where’s My Sock ($3.30) with Last Piece ($101) a length away third.

Rayan Moore, Racing Manager for McEvoy Mitchell Racing said Pacific Glamour was capable of measuring up in stronger company.

“We were a bit unsure how she would handle the ground,” Moore said.

“When we got a heavy nine this morning we were looking at her pedigree, doing a deep dive. We saw the sire North Pacific had won two races on heavy ground.

“She trialled up really well for her return today.

“Pacific Glamour showed a lot of promise last preparation but unfortunately had cardiac arrhythmia on race debut at Moonee Valley.

“She was very impressive resuming today.

“I think we have a bit of quality with her and she should do it on the top of the ground as well and she warrants going to a higher level.

“The filly had been down at our Flemington stables for a while now and trialled well there and she looked immaculate.”

Winning jockey Fred Kersley said Pacific Glamour was above average.

“I have to thank Tony (McEvoy) and the team,” Kersley said.

“It is pretty easy when they present horses like this.

“She has a great head on her shoulders and kept her cool.

“Pacific Glamour began well enough and towed me the whole way.

“I liked the way she handled the track, they are very testing conditions.

“She is only small but has a great action on her and did it well.

“I knew I was going good at the top of the straight and Tony said if she handled the track she would just win.

“She is going to go on to bigger and better things.”
