Outlandos on staying path
Promising middle distance galloper Outlandos returned to the winning list for trainers Tony & Calvin McEvoy at Murray Bridge on Sunday, March 15.
A well backed $2.30 favourite, ridden by Todd Pannell, Outlandos scored a half-length win in the Torrens Building/Civil Pty Ltd Class Two Handicap (1400m).
Second up from a spell, the three-year-old beat Auman Zou ($3.30) with Ying And Yang ($5.50), 1-1/4 lengths away third.
Pannell had the gelding three-wide with cover in the run to the home turn before asking him to sprint in the home straight.
Carrying 60kg, Outlandos picked up the leaders over the final 200 metres to win well.
Trainer Tony McEvoy said it had been a good effort.
“A three-year-old taking on the older horses, with 60kg and travelling three deep, it was a nice win,” McEvoy said.
“I will line him up in the Port Adelaide Guineas over 1800 metres against his own age next time.”
The Listed $100,000 Dominant Port Adelaide Guineas will be run at Morphettville on Saturday, April 4.
“I’m not sure he will run a Derby trip, but we’ll put him on the path, and he can tell us.
“Today certainly indicated he was crying out for a bit more ground.”
Outlandos now has two wins and three placings from just nine starts.
