Organics too strong
A patient ride by jockey Harry Coffey enabled Organics to break her maiden status at Wangaratta on Sunday, January 18.
After balancing up in a rearward position, Organics improved in the run to home turn in the Drummond Golf Albury Maiden (1400m) before lengthening over the final 200m to claim victory.
The three-year-old Godolphin-owned filly was having just her second run for trainers Tony & Calvin McEvoy and appreciated the step out to today’s trip.
Organics ($4.60) won by an increasing 1-1/4 lengths from Left On Read ($4.40) with Iced Poppy ($4) a neck away third.
Rayan Moore, Racing Manager for McEvoy Mitchell Racing, said Organics was a legitimate improver.
“She had a good first up run at Cranbourne,” Moore said.
“She was probably not suited by the track circumference there at Cranbourne.
“It was a top ride today by H Coffey. He let the speed go early and balanced her up.
“She was very strong through the line this daughter of Street Boss, very positive signs.
“She came to us from the Godolphin setup when James (Cummings) decided to move overseas.
“It is fantastic to get these well-bred horses into our system, and it is very important to get these fillies winning their maiden.
“We will take her through the grades and there is upside with her.”
Winning jockey Harry Coffey said Organics had the potential to go to higher levels.
“I wanted to ride her to finish off today,” Coffey said.
“I was a bit negative early, and it nearly cost me.
“Luckily enough she had a turn of foot which was able to get me out of trouble.
“We were able to tack up behind them then produce her late and she was strong through the line.
“I actually trialled her and she went okay then we went to Cranbourne in a pretty handy maiden. She blew the cobwebs out and was primed for today.
“It was nice for her to get a win, she will get some confidence from it.
“She just needs to go to the races and have good experiences, learns to trust herself and let rip at the end.
“It was good to see her do things right today.”
