Hinchpin dynamic
Trainer Tony McEvoy has big plans for two-year-old Hinchpin, an impressive maiden winner at Gawler on Thursday, April 25.
Backed from $2 into $1.80 favourite, Hinchpin, ridden by Barend Vorster, dashed away from his older rivals in the Thank You Veterans Maiden (1506m) beating Hez A Wolf ($101) by four lengths with Racy Rosie ($10), a long neck away third.
It was the start of a good day for McEvoy who left Gawler with three winners plus one at Flemington.
“He is a promising horse,” McEvoy said.
“At his debut at Balaklava (April 10), the gelding was inexperienced and ran about a bit.
“Today, he showed the benefit of that run and the impressive part was the way he ran away from the field over the final 300 metres.
“He really came on for today’s race.”
McEvoy said Hinchpin would go the $150,000 Group 3 TAB South Australian Sires Produce Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville on Saturday, May 11.
Hinchpin was purchased for $100,000 by McEvoy Mitchell at the 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
