Definitely Got The Style
Got The Style showed the appreciation of a firm racing surface with a brilliant win at Ballarat on Monday, November 1.
The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained Got The Style dashed away from her rivals in the home straight to score a 2-3/4 length win in the Cervus Equipment Maiden (1200m).
Sent out the $3.60 favourite, and ridden by Dean Holland, the four-year-old mare defeated Tempest Charm ($7) with Perfect Legacy ($6), 3-1/4 lengths away third.
Got The Style made her debut on October 3 this year at Bendigo but didn’t handle the heavy 8 track rating finishing fifth.
Today, on a Good 4 rated track, the mare showed her talent winning easily.
Trainer Calvin McEvoy said it had been a relief to see Got The Style break through.
“That was really nice and good for Judy Wanless (owner) who has been quite patient with this mare,” McEvoy said.
“We went to Bendigo for her debut and were really confident. but it was as heavy track, and she skated all the way and didn’t appreciate the going at all.
“Then we came here 10 days ago and a horse in the stall next to her got a bit agitated, she got a bit frightened and knocked her head.
“She hasn’t missed a beat since, and we came here today quite confident.
“I didn’t enjoy her head carriage, but I think it was greenness and she is very raw, but has a lot of talent.”
McEvoy said Got The Style was a mare to follow.
“She has got a big pedigree and we have had a few out of the mare Pane In The Glass and it is lovely to have the support of Judy and her husband Ron.
“We will just take her through her grades because she is not the finished product yet, but she has a bit of untapped ability.”
Winning jockey Dean Holland was suitably impressed.
“She was good,” Holland said.
“She had her first start on a heavy track, and to me it looked like she was skating and couldn’t get her footing.
“The stable has a good opinion of her, and it was just a case of keeping her out of trouble today.
“She had a fair bit of pressure throughout with that horse out wide.
“I didn’t want to hand up and at the same time I didn’t want to do too much.
“We were able to find a happy medium and it probably made her throw her head up couple of times, but she was just too good for them.
“She will furnish into a nice horse next preparation.”
