Building excellent record
Impressive three-year-old filly Heart Of Glass made it three wins from just four starts on Sandown Hillside on Wednesday, May 15.
Trained by Tony & Calvin McEvoy, Heart Of Glass looks now ready to step up to Saturday company.
The daughter of top stallion Impending proved too strong for her rivals in an excellent quality midweek Sportsbet Photo Finish Refund Handicap (1000m).
Ridden by apprentice Jaylah Kennedy, Heart Of Glass ($4.40) settled midfield behind the speed before finishing with a well-timed run to win by a long head from Written Bligh ($10) with Picky ($12) a similar margin away third.
Rayan Moore, racing manager for the McEvoys, said Heart Of Glass was building an excellent record.
“It was a very good win,” Moore said.
“She hasn’t done much wrong this filly, four starts, three wins and a metro win.
“It is fantastic for the owners and breeders Glen and Peter Carrick, big supporters of our stable, from Noorilim Park, we spell quite a lot of our horses there.
“Today, she presented unbelievable in the yard.
“She is definitely a black type performer going forward.
“It was good today to see Heart Of Glass so strong at the end of 1000 metres, 1200 shouldn’t be any problem.
“We have always had a big opinion of her and that is why we had a throw at the stumps in the Red Roses.
“She drew the wrong part of the track and was lost. I don’t think it will be her only time at stakes level.”
Winning jockey Jaylah Kennedy believes Heart Of Glass has a promising future.
“She has got plenty in store,” Kennedy said.
“From a low gate I was able to balance away pretty neutral.
“I had a soft economical run throughout.
“I loved the way she picked herself up from the corner.
“It was probably a really good thing I got held up down the straight.
“I felt I had a lap full of horse but when she hit the front she star gazed, she is still very green.
“But she will take plenty from the win, I would love to see her out over a bit further.”
