Brazen very pretty
Promising three-year-old filly Pretty Brazen looks set to justify the faith of trainers Tony & Calvin McEvoy following an excellent win at Caulfield on Saturday, October 19.
A well backed $3.40 favourite, Pretty Brazen, ridden by Michael Dee, unleashed a strong sprint to win the QMS Media Plate (1400m) running away by 1-1/2 lengths from Splendoronthegrass ($10) with Debt’n’deficit ($41), a half-length away third.
The McEvoys have always had a big opinion of the daughter of Brazen Beau, raced by Graham and Linda Huddy, but it has taken a while for her to show her true ability.
Victorian stable foreman Michael Shepherdson was delighted with win.
“It was a really patient ride by Mick (Dee),” Shepherdson said.
“Tony told him before the race to be quiet early and trust her.
“We took her to Sydney early in the prep, but nothing really went right.
“So, we lowered out sights and she has got good confidence from her last two runs.
“She has got a good pedigree and is a big scopey filly so will have excellent broodmare potential.
“She is starting to hit her straps now.
“I’m not sure what Tony and Calvin have in mind but perhaps something during Melbourne Cup week.
“She will be a really nice filly in the autumn.”
Winning jockey Michael Dee said he had been very impressed by the win.
“She absolutely had a great turn of foot,” Dee said.
“It was a bit of a query from her wide barrier, but it ended up good enough.
“We ended up in a nice enough spot, three deep with cover.
“Gee she has got a good turn of foot and put them away quite comfortably.
“She will get a mile-plus, absolutely, she is so well natured and got a good brain on her.
“The further she goes, the better for her.”
