Perfect day

Trainer Tony McEvoy had the perfect day at Murray Bridge on Wednesday, September 19 – one runner, one winner.

Debutante Maui Girl ($3.30 fav), ridden by Todd Pannell, led throughout to win the Victory Verandah Fillies & Mares Maiden (1400m) by 2-3/4 lengths from So We Are ($3.60) with Resista ($21) a length away third.

“She was the perfect filly for the track,” McEvoy said.

“Murray Bridge tends to suit front or on-pace runners and that was always going to be her racing pattern.

“She is a nice size filly and I’ve given her plenty of time and I believe we will be rewarded.

“I believe she will get even further with maturity and looks to have a few wins going forward.”

Jockey Todd Pannell was suitably impressed.

“She is a very well-educated filly and it was a comfortable win,” Pannell said.

“She jumped nicely and relaxed when she found the front, then had a nice turn of foot on straightening and was never really troubled.”

Maui Girl, by Lope De Vega out of Run For Naara was bred and is owned by Serene Bloodstock Pty Ltd, managed by Les Tinkler.

McEvoy said he would probably keep the filly at the provincials before considering a trip to town.
